Volunteer Education Ambassador Training Description and Responsibilities

The Americans Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center, in partnership with the Federation of American Women’s Clubs Overseas, FAWCO, Violence against Women & Children Committee, will conduct Ambassador Trainings which will be held in three major Asian cities in April and May in 2010.

The goal of this Education Ambassador Training program is to broaden repositories of information and raise awareness about what AODVC can do to help American expatriates experiencing domestic violence abroad.

Program description:

Ambassadors will attend one of the trainings to learn:

  • The history and mission of the Americans Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center
  • What services the Americans Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center can offer American abuse victims overseas
  • Why these services are important to victims’ overall safety and self-sufficiency, and why they are a valuable supplement to any services she is receiving in her country of residence
  • How to reach the international toll free number from their city/country

Ambassador responsibilities:

  • Raise • Raise awareness of AODVC in her host city/country by speaking to local women’s organizations, women’s shelters or other expatriate schools or American groups, and/or writing articles, and/or tabling conferences and events.
  • Commit to a two-year term of voluntary service, engaging in an Ambassador activity approximately every three month for a total of at least eight activities.
  • Promptly complete a form after each activity that will be emailed back to AODVC giving feedback on the number of people attending, any follow-up required and any insights, suggestions or lessons learned from the presentation.
  • At no time should an outreach ambassador attempt to engage in direct contact with a victim. Should an Ambassador receive an inquiry from a victim by email or fax, the Ambassador will forward the referral to AODVC in a timely manner for follow-up. If the victim is in immediate danger, she should contact her local law enforcement agency for help.

AODVCC will provide the Ambassadors with the following:

  • Toolkit including a power point presentation, posters and brochures for distribution at appropriate repositories to ensure consistent message delivery of AODVCC’s services
  • Ongoing support from AODVC for any questions or clarification about responsibilities
  • Monthly newsletters and quarterly updates with new statistics, new services offered or changes affecting service delivery.
