*There are five major types of abuse:  physical, emotional, sexual, social and spiritual. Below are listed only a few examples of each type of abuse.

Examples of physical abuse:

Throwing objects at you

Pushing or shoving you

Threatening you with weapons

Hitting, punching or kicking you

Choking or throwing you

Examples of emotional abuse:

Insulting you repeatedly

Calling you names

Yelling at you

Blaming you for everything

Threatening to hurt/kill you and/or the children

Examples of social abuse:

Insulting you publicly

Putting down your capabilities as a wife, mother,  lover or worker

Demanding all of your attention and resenting any  focus on others

Isolating you from friends or activities

Spending money without first meeting basic financial obligations

Examples of sexual abuse:

Expecting you to have sex after an abusive incident

Criticizing your sexual performance

Withholding affection to punish you

Accusing you of looking at, talking to, or having  sex with another

Examples of spiritual abuse:

Discounting your sense of right or wrong

Denying your value as a person with legitimate wants and likes

Questioning your sense of reality

Denying, minimizing or ridiculing your spiritual beliefs
